DAFF Ref: | |
Applicant: | Donegal County Council Donegal. |
Location of Loading: | Buncrana Pier. The loading or dredge area is shown on the application drawings, but is the footprint of the berthage adjacent to the main pier and car ferry slipway. The area of dredge is 1.43ha. |
Location of Disposal Site: | The application drawings show the potential dumping at sea area which is 27.45ha. This area represents the area surrounding the pier and slipway extending north west, due west and south west. The dredge method is plough dredging. The plough dredging process means that the material that is being moved or dredged along the seabed will disperse within the immediate area in a localised plume. Some material will remain on the sea bed and some in suspension in the water column. Material in the water column will drop out of suspension over time. The majority of the material will settle within the dumping site area but some residue will remain in suspension in the water column and will also disperse within the wider estuary with changing tides. |
Description of Activity: | The dredging operations will be completed using a plough dredger and typically each dredge campaign will take between a week to ten days subject to tides and weather. |
